The Nudist Colony of the Dead (1991)

The Nudist Colony of The Dead (1991)

W & D: Mark Pirro

Well….

Is this the doomed the title says it all kind of movie?

You betcha!

However it could’ve fooled me, I figured this movie was made the same year Haxan was; you know back in the twenties.

The film opens with the courtroom case of the century as angry townsfolk, the decent, are fighting for the greater good by trying to kick out the nudies. This kind of set up is typical of nudists movies, but after losing the camp and court case the nudists decide if they can’t be nude then they would all rather die in ritualistic suicide… and they come back as Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ like zombies, and sing too!

Actually everybody sings…

Years later, Friday the 13th style, campers come along and re-open a Christian themed campground. The zombies exact revenge.

Its too bad the bad make up, sets, and atrocious timing are not completely forgiven by the memorable tunes and sometimes fine gore.

Mark Pirro who we all recognize his name from genre classic “Curse of the Queerwolf” again tries to break conventional horror with comedy, and it all mostly falls flat, especially with the annoying old lady zombie who’s tata’s hang to her feet. I will admit some of the songs are quite good, repetitive but good, I particularly like “ I Don’t Care” blues song the sing in the van… other than that there is a certain amount of anguished embarrassment you get from the flick… If the film stock were just a little bit better it would be a cult classic in the ranks of “Rocky Horror”.

It does feature a cameo by sci fi horror auteur Forest J Ackerman, and that’s always a plus.
